Why is someone bidding against themselves on one of my items?

I've recently taken the plunge and have started selling a few things on ebay. One of the items I've listed is a brand new pair of trainers. 1 bidder has bid against themselves more than once thus bumping up the price of my item. This seems a bit suspicious to me. Although the bidder is not the current top bidder for my item, I'm worried that genuine buyers will think I'm trying to up the price of my item using another account. Should I block him from placing furhter bids, email him and ask what he is doing, or just leave it?

the bidder cannot bid up the price
they bid £50 on an opening bid of £5.00
then they only show as bidding £5
if someone else bids £10 then the first bidder outbids them until it goes beyond £50

Are you sure he has bid against himself, or did Ebay automatically place bids until he reached his maximum bid. As far as I know, if you put in a higher bid than one you already had, it wouldn't increase until another person bid.
