How is she affording the deposit and month's rent in advance on a new place if she's not been able to pay the rent in the place she's already in?
IMO if she's not paying the rent where she is, she can't really expect another 17 days in the property at the LL's expense.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

The purpose of a section 8 is to gain posession is the landlord aware she intends to vacate so soon? Is it too late for some sort of agreement, like she ackowledges the debt in writing, or has the relationship completely broken down. Afterall it sounds like the landlord is not likley to get paid quickly in any case (if your friend is skint), it's one thing winning the court case, it's another getting paid.
I took a tenant to court and offered her the chance of avoiding it by acknowledging the debt in writing, she didn't do it so I took her to court and won. But she wasn't skint (just daft) so I got paid, unbelievably she told me she missed one months rent (she owed more in total) because she was buying a flat and had to pay her conveyancing upfont fees!Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Seems to me her only real option is to stay with a friend or ask the council for some type of emergency accommodation until her new house is ready.
She could refuse to move out and force her LL to seek eviction but that course of action wouldn't be very fair on the LL if she's already put him/her out of pocket.“Don't do it! If her housing benefit claim has now come through, it's presumably backdated so she should have some money to pay her rent.Perhaps she needs to post on the DFW board and get some advice on priority debts and budgeting?
