Secure payment method (not eBay transaction)

I've got someone in the US who wants to buy some motorcycle parts from me. It's not through eBay or any other auction site, just a private transaction. He's happy to pay whatever it costs for shipping/insurance etc as it's stuff he couldn't easily get from over there. The value of the stuff is in the hundreds, not including shipping, so I want to be 100% sure that payment is irrevocably in my hands before I ship it.
What would be the best way for me to ask him to pay?
