Oxford to London Trains
From September I'm studying part time in London, (I will commute from Oxford). I will travel by train twice a week, I will have to buy one next day return and one same day return each week. As I'm a part time student I won't be eligible for a student rail card. I'd be grateful for any advice on getting cheap as possible train tickets for this journey.

A Network Rail card is a possibility - but not usable in the morning peak
You could try for advance fares - they are available on some trains, mainly off peak
Otherwise try the Oxford Tube - £16 for a same/next day return or £72 for 12 single journeys. You might be eligible for their student rate:
Student / Young Person - Anyone with NUS, ISIC or official Universtiy photo ID card or a Young Person's railcard or discount coach card
The Oxford Espress has similar fares - the choice may be either which turns up first or exactly where in London you need to be - one goes via Notting Hill Gate, the other Baker Street0 -
Bus services are excellent from Oxford to London and on time. OH used them for years and still full of praise.0

Thanks. Due to early morning lectures the train is the only option and will therefore be peak time travelling. I will have to try booking tickets early in advance.0

The buses run 24 7
I seriously doubt if you'll get anything other than a full fare train ticket before 0930. Well 5am maybe..0 -
How are you travelling to train station early in morning ? If decide to go by bus to London, Thornhill park and ride is great place to catch bus and obviously park car or bike.0

I live in West Oxfordshire and don't drive, so I will get a bus through Botley to the train station. I need to arrive in London Paddington for 8.30am to give me enough time to get to the University.
Where I live, the earliest bus I can get to Oxford is at 6.05am and arrives in Oxford at about 6.50am.0 -
I also live in West Oxforshire. Yep bus from Gloucester Green would not get you there fast enough. Pity it is soooo much cheaper.0
