At the moment i am receiving SSP and we're really struggling. So i went on the entitledto website to see if we could get help with our council tax and when i put in i receive SSP it asked if we got the disability element of Tax credits. I've tried looking at the tax credits website but i'm really struggling to find the answer. I've already been off work for a month and will definately be off at least 2 more. If theres any other help we'd receive i really appreciate the info.
Many thanks.
Edit: My employer said they could temporarily let me go if this helps me moneywise but i thought it'd only make it harder at the end of the tax year when we do our tax credit review iyswim.
Many thanks.

Are you receiving DLA anyway? If so, then you should be able to receive the WTC Disablilty element. However, if you don't receive DLA then you won't I'm afraid.athensgeorgia wrote: »At the moment i am receiving SSP and we're really struggling. What Rate of DLA do you have to be recieving then to qualify for the WTC Disability element ???:j Things can only get Better :j0 -
Any rate will allow you to qualify for the WTC disability element as long as you work at least 16 hours p/wk.0

Yeah I work 22 hrs pw at work and I'm on middle rate care DLA.
I didn't realise I could get the disability element of WTC.
I'm wondering if its worth claiming, as then my threshold will go up, and I may not get the same rate of HB and CTB

You may as well let them know. You will be backdated up to 3 months.
Even if you dont let them know yourself your award may be updated automatically as DWP & TCO are currently carrying out a matching excercise for a number of claims.0 -
Regardless of wether you are working or not, it you are receiving DLA you get approx £50 a week extra on your child tax credits, more if its high rate.0

Here is a link the the CAB which explains the qualifying criteria for the Disability Element of Working Tax Credit.
SSP is a qualifying benefit, subject to income and number of hours worked, as advised by subsoniccoyote.
