i got a vax cadence for £60 from argos. my mum has a dyson dc14 animal she bought second hand, i never rated dysons much becuase apparently their reliability is shocking. i wanted a henry (we have an old one) but the size of my lounge makes a cylinder impractical.
the vax is nice enough, the dyson is obviously a more expensive vac but i dont see the justification in the new price difference between the twothings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Just wanted to add a few small points to this about vacuum cleaners.
I work for my parents and they own a shop in which we repair vacuum cleaners.
We repair most makes from dyson, bissell, vax, electrolux, panasonic, numatic (henry, hettie etc), and alot of them we do the 'under gaurantee' work for.
Some of these companies are FAR better than others if you have a problem under gaurantee, with panasonic generally coming accross as the ones that seem to go wrong the least.
Also very realiable are the numatic range e.g henry, hettie, george etc and having personally used a henry for years (with dogs, cats etc) i would totaly recomend as it is very easy to use on both hard wood floors and carpets.
The problem we seem to have with alot of the cheaper end vaccumm cleaners is the availabily of spare parts and accesories (bags, filetrs etc), so if you buy a cheap cleaner be aware that it is not always an option to have a repair carried out after the gaurantee period as the parts are often not available.
Recomended manufacturers for availability of spare parts are:
Panasnic (also appear to be very reliable)
Dyson (cannot comment on reliabilty - although do have a long gaurantee period)
Electrolux (although seem to be quite unreliale and go wrong alot)
Numatic
Vax (Although have a tendency to get blocked easily)
Hoover (although not sure how many models they are currently producing)
Most of the other makes (and especially shops own brand labels e.g argos, tesco etc.) are almost impossible to get spare parts for and therefore if they go wrong after the gaurantee period is up they are only heading for the bin (which is fine if they are very cheap and you are willing to replace it every year or two)
Really hope that helps some of you with your decisions on vaccuum clean purchasing:j0 -
Pay a little bit more and get a Henry you won't regret it....0

My Dyson has also died - seems to be happening to a lot of people. Mrs K. claims it exploded in smoke, but I think she just set fire to it as she wants one of the new roller ball ones..... Anyway, they seem very expensive.
I'm looking at this one in Argos -http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4063335/Trail/searchtext>VACUUM+VALUE.htm Seems to be cheap and have very good reviews.Take the point about spare parts for these cheaper models, but I'd be happy if it just last a year plus its £200 cheaper than a Dyson. Also you can take it back to Argos if you don't like. Gonna buy it tonight, the Mrs. is goint to be so pleased (isn't she ?).0
