Where to get a good cheap vacuum cleaner please?

My dyson has all but given up, and I'm thinking of a cylinder as I only have to vacuum my stairs and upstairs as downstairs has no carpet, and I'm sick of lugging the upright down the stairs to vacuum back up it!

My friend has a Henry (well a Hettie) and loves it, other than that any ideas? Thanks

My son just got a Zanussi HEPA cylinder cleaner from Morrisons for £49.99, quite a powerful one and bagless too

I noticed on the debenhams site
they have the Miele reduced this
is such a good price and there is
also a free P&P with 10% off code
knocking about on MSE which brings
    it down to £89

  • If you have a TJ Hughes near you, they usually have some good deals on vacuums.

When I read this I dithered a while then ordered it. Used to have a miele decades ago. We are putting in wood flooring and my hoover is an upright so knew I needed to get a new one. Well it is great . It arrived today ( very quick delivery) and my OH is hoovering the house as I type. :T
  • Tesco.com are fab at reducing prices but even their models in the supermarkets have price reductions all the time. Best to check with Tesco as ASDA can be too small with the offerings they sell in store. Failing that get someone you know who may have a COSTCO or MAKRO card as you can pick up relatively cheap vacuums there, or at B&Q.
  • Before buying a cheaper cleaner than the Dyson make sure you check out the reviews.

I bought a Morphy Richards Performair cleaner a while ago - it was on offer direct from Morphy Richards at the time so was under £60 based on good reviews on Amazon. they are a bit more than that at the moment but it is still a lot less than a Dyson (I have never owned a Dyson so cannot compare). It is the best cleaner I have had - my only grumble is it is not very compact for storage when not in use.
  • Ive gone thru 4 vacs in the last 2 years. I have 3 cats so lots of hairs. I got a henry a few mnts ago and its excellent. I paid roughly £58 after quidco & £30 off voucher from additions direct.

I had the Performair and yes it was good to begin with but after almost 3 years ended up cutting out after 10 mins use and didn't clean to good either, Just glad I didn't pay for it, got it to trial from Morphy Richards.
