Digital Switchover in the next few days

Couple of questions - if I dont buy a freeview box, so longer recieve TV - can I get a rebate back from my TV licence?
If I do go ahead, without having to spend a couple of hundred pounds on a compatible video recorder, if I bought 2 freeview boxes (18 each in lidl) connected one to the TV and one to the video, would I then be able to record one channel and watch another?
Personally I feel that the digital switchover is a major step backwards, unless you've got hundreds to buy the new equipement, and then if you have, you've probably got cable/satelite telly already.
(unwatchable tv and radio when poor signal or poor weather), for what? more rubbish low quality channels. rant rant rant!

You have to fill in this refund form and I think you can only get refunds in blocks of 3 months, plus you might have to provide evidence of why you no longer need the licence.
You can buy 2 boxes and hook one up to the vcr, so its not exactly hundreds of £ on new equipment...0 -
Yes, you can watch one channel and record another with a digi box. Or you can watch tv progs on your pc with Iplayer.0

It's a good idea to get 2 different digiboxes (preferably from two totally different places) as otherwise you may find the remote controls will operate both at the same time0

My Lidl does not have any Freeview Receivers, however my Aldi does have them for £18 ish.
Remember that the signal is increased after changeover to digital, so you may well get better reception.0 -
Why not just buy a dual tuner PVR for around £70 (I think ASDA still have them, but usually only instore) then you can watch 1 channel and record another, or record 2 channels and watch something you have already recorded, plus it saves on having to record to tapes...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

or you could get sky/virgin/freesat and not bother with freeview at all.0
