Help! My pc has been hijacked by 'PC anti-spyware 2010'

Hi, Am really hoping someone can give me some advice. My laptop has been 'attacked' by this rogue program. I have AVG Free version and Windows Defender and it's causing problems with both of them. Unfortunately I'm not at all computer savvy and I can't get rid of it. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Had a look here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-pc-antispyware-2010. Is there an easier solution?

That is the easy solution. The only thing that's easier is to take your PC to a friend / shop who is computer savvy and get them to do it

After that get them to install a decent anti-virus / firewall / anti-spyware and follow the instructions in the Malware/Spyware Removal Guide as it's almost certain you have lots of other problems

That is really easy to do. Follow Browntoa`s instructions

    > Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. (unlike the rest of the software this needs to be run now)
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
    • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • On the Scanner tab:
      • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
      • Then click on the Scan button.
    • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
    • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
    • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your co <

There is no need to take the PC anywhere! Simply follow the detailed instructions given on the bleepingcomputer site and come back here if you have any problems.

Thank you all so much for your help. Am just about to download the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and see if I can do this myself. Must admit, my first reaction was to take laptop to nearest computer shop! Will post again when everything is back to normal. Thanks again!

You will find the computer shop will probably use malwarebytes and charge you £40 + for doing it... (its what I do) should take about 30 minutes to an hour. It might be worth running ccleaner first to clear out your temp files and temp internet files, as this will seriously reduce the time the scanner takes.

Malwarebytes is incredibly easy to use. Make sure it UPDATES first to get the latest virus definitions loaded in
And although they recommend a QUICK scan ive personally found that FULL scans can reveal even more nasties on occasion (Better safe than sorry I always say)

Me again! Well, the Malwarebytes seems to have done the trick, (phew!!) and it was straightforward enough, even for me. The last time I had repairs done at our local independent computer shop (about 6mths ago) they installed the free AVG 8.5, Windows Defender and ccleaner. Before that I had Virgin PC Guard Total, which wasn't very effective- that's why the pc ended up at the shop!

Can I just ask, is it a good idea to have both AVG and Windows Defender? Also, is it enough just to have the Windows firewall, (XP OS) or should another firewall program be installed for extra protection?

Final question! Should I post the log details of the Malwarebytes scan here for you guys to have a look at, as mentioned in Browntoa's instructions, or only do this if there are any more problems?

Many thanks again for all your advice. :)

Defender is not an anti virus, AVG is. You may encounter problems if you have more than one anti virus program, but this is not the case here

If everything is running smoothly now, I don't think it's necessary.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!
