seller has increased combined p&p

i have just won 5 small/light items on ebay, total postage was £9.50 but i asked seller if they would combine postage. they gave 50p discount for each of the 5 items, so total combined p&p was £7 for 2nd class recorded. i went to pay now and it showed "total discount £2.50" and "total postage £7"

i know £7 is over twice the maximum possible postage cost for that service (maximum is £3.45 for up to 1kg and they won't even be that heavy!) but i was going to pay it anyway, then i got an error message, so i went back and tried again... seller has now increased the combined p&p to £8!?

i have a "good news..." email for each of the 5 items stating that a 50p discount per item has been applied, but then the seller has sent an invoice with £8 total p&p!

not sure what to do. i have emailed the seller stating that postage was £7 and then changed to £8 just as i was making payment. it looks like they are trying it on now, to make lots of extra profit from the postage.

not sure how they can send the emails stating 50p discount for each item and then change their mind and increase the total p&p by £1 though?

not impressed as £7 was already taking the mick at over double the actual postage cost, £8 is probably about £5+ over the actual postage cost!

    hold your horses,

total postage before discount was £9.50, total postage after discount is £7
... you seemed to be happy enough to pay the £9.50 by bidding on 5 different items and a seller doesnt have to offer discount

It could be a simple computer error/glitch or anything. Before getting worked up about it, have a cuppa, sleep on it and see what the seller says in the morning. Even if you have to pay £8 postage, it's still a £1 discount

If you didnt like (or want to pay) those postage prices then you shouldnt have bid in the first place

i have not refused to pay even the £9.50 full postage total. the problem is that the combined postage was £7 one minute and then £8 the next. It increased as I was making payment.

it is not an error or glitch as the seller sent me an invoice showing postage as £8, even though they had previously agreed a 50p discount per item.

It's probably just a typo - when you combine items on the invoice it automatically applies the full postage for all items. The seller then has to override this to the actual postage - with "fat fingers" it's easy to hit 8 rather than 7.

From the sounds of it, you are both reasonable people, so i'm sure it will be resolved by polite communication.

Remember though when you leave feedback that the stars reflect your personal experience of how you judged the postage .
