Transforming kitchen cupboards (what on earth do I use?)

Hi,
Myself and my girlfriend are about to move into a new flat - the kitchen is, shall we say, the least appealing room. I'm wanting to transform the way it looks with that sticky-backed design material that I've seen used... the only thing is... I have no idea what the technical term for this is called :embarasse I'm sure there is a very simple name for it... but it just isn't coming to me.
Is there anyone out there who can put me out of my misery and let me know?
Thanks.

the most common trade name is Fablon. it aint cheap and it aint pretty either.
(and its very hard to put it on correctly). good luck.

I agree, Fablon is expensive for what it is and isn't the easiest thing to achieve a good finish. You'd be much better painting the doors...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thank you all for the response. I'll look around to see if I can find any good deals... failing that I'll resort to good ol' fashioned paint."My mother said I must always be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy. Hi we have a boiler cover in our kitchen..it is a lovely curved bit of wood but was in white and doesnt go at all in our new kitchen..i got some fablon in oak effect and have to say it looks great..my friend honestly didnt believe it wasn't wood until she touched it..it was £10 and was a pain to put on but looks good. I personally wouldnt put it on cupboard doors though..could be a nightmare!
Good luck0 -
Thank you all for the excellent replies. Just this morning my girlfriend managed to convince me to move into the slightly more expensive, but much better fitted, flat - so this will no longer be a problem. It is however good to know the name of what I was looking for!"My mother said I must always be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy.
