New phone line - need some advice

I have just moved in to a new property and need to get a new telephone line connected, however i'm not sure which is the best option to take.
I would like to get a BT line installed and get my broadband with O2.
I have seen the thread about BT offering free connection if you take out an 18 month contract with them, but i dont really like the part about making the 10 chargeable phone calls per month. I dont really want to get charged extra if i forget to make these calls etc.
I have also read someone getting a good deal from Sky. Sky offered them free connection and free line rental when taking out a HD box, multiroom and broadband.
I would go for the Sky offer but dont really want to take their broadband because they offer you the basic one for free which is slow and has a download limit. Also i've had Sky BB before and went over to O2 which i prefer.
When taking out the phone line with Sky do they provide their own line or is it actually a BT line but the line rental is paid to Sky? Can i take Sky's phone line and put O2 broadband on it?
Any advice would help.
Thanks

If you really don't need/want to make a few calls to family or friends, all you have to do is to phone a few local takeaways at the weekend (when such calls are inclusive and therefore cost-free) and, when answered, apologise for dialling a wrong number and hang up.
Hence, you can make the required 10 calls each month for no cost whatsoever.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Sky line is a BT line.
O2 is very competitive (especially with the mobile discount), but only if it's the LLU service on your exchange. Don't even consider the O2 Access service.
What other LLU options do you have?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Do BT give you free evening and weekend calls included in the cost of the monthly line rental or do you have to pay extra for that?
I dont mind the 10 calls thing, its just that this is my second home so i will not always be there all of the time. So it will be quite annoying to have to keep some sort of record or remember how many calls i have made or need to make each month so i dont get charged extra. Whether they are free or not, its just the hassle of having to do it each month, it wouldnt be too bad if i used the phone all the time but i have a mobile which i use all of the time, and just need a landline for the sake of it.
I can get LLU on my exchange. Samknows website shows that i can get O2, BE, Sky and a few others, but i want to go for O2.
I'm gonna get Sky HD sometime soon, so i'm tempted to get a phone line from them with free connection and also free line rental for 12 months, as long as i can put BB from another ISP on the line.:cool:0 -
Yes, free e and w calls but only with min 12m line rental. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It is NOT 10 chargeable calls. It's 10 chargeable OR inclusive calls.
RiCh does not have a problem with that. The problem is the consequences of forgetting.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
