Why is that my broadband connection is rock solid during the day and then come evening it starts dropping? Is it true that when everyone comes home from work and go online the system gets overwhelmed? I can't see that it can be a fault with my equipment as why would it work perfectly well during the day. Next Wednesday when England is playing footie I expect my connection to be ace!

have you considered monitoring your broadband speeds? there are plently of appliations that can do this at different times of the day (and night)0

Yes, it's almost certainly what you say - peak home internet usage is typically between 18:00 and 22:00. You may be unlucky and have been grouped together with and contending for bandwidth with a high proportion of heavy network users.
If your current ISP isn't one that "traffic shapes" actively and you're not a heavy network user (e.g. you don't do a lot of file sharing), you might be better off switching to one that does, because they throttle things like file sharing in peak hours to make the experience better for other users.0 -
Thanks fwor. I just needed someone to confirm my suspicions. For anybody who isn't very techie, talking to TalkTalk about this problem, they will be put through a myriad of checks and queries, getting them to move equipment about, changing filters and god knows what else when in fact it is THEIR blooming service thats at fault!Tact: getting your point across without stabbing someone0

My first question would be "Whos your broadband supplier?" That should pretty much solve the problem depending on your answer. lol.
Had that sort of issue all the time with BT. Shifted to Sky and have been with them for 2 years or more now and not had a single issue. Superb!
I can pretty much guarantee that its not your equipment
