How has this been missed by so many on the forum (and so far by Martin Lewis) I am on the BT Unlimited Anytime Plan. An email I received on the 10th of August I quote
“Some of our home phone calling plan prices will be changing from 1 October 2009. These include our set-up fee, daytime UK call rate and pay-per-use calling features. You’ll find full details below.
Terms and Conditions
1. Calls of up to 60 minutes duration (excluding indirect access numbers and dial-up internet access). Fair use policy applies – maximum 1,000 minutes or 150 calls a month. If either of these limits on inclusive calls is exceeded, BT will charge for these calls until further notice.”
NB: 150 calls = 5 minutes per call
I worked out that this means 33 min of calls per day. Oh and if you happen to make more than150 calls even if they do not total 1000 minutes you will charged at standard rates for each call. Oh and if you are elderly, disabled, live miles from your family and this is your only means of contact, tough. Also if you consider calls to utilities due to problems with inefficient services (not least of all BT - waiting 40 minutes plus before you even get through) would probably take up all of your inclusive allowance you
If you have 2 children and 2 elderly parents who you call every day for 20 minutes each- a fairly typical allocation of call time I would suggest, you have exceeded your 1000 minute allowance on an ‘Unlimited Anytime Call Plan’ by 1400 minutes. Nice One BT. Keep those Directors big paypackets going – oh yes and don’t forget the share holders eh? Just forget everyone else who put you in work in the first place.
Couldn't add link for you as am being picked up as a new user.
I *think* that T&C relates to 0845/0870 calls only?Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

I'm on the unlimited weekend plan, so may have a slightly different email, however, the way I read mine is that the Fair Use applies to 0845/0870 numbers only, not to all your calls. ie it says
"Calls to 0845 and 0870 numbersare included at no extra cost:"
and note 1 says
"1. Calls of up to 60 minutes duration (excluding indirect access numbers and dial-up internet access). Fair use policy applies – maximum 1,000 minutes or 150 calls a month. If either of these limits on inclusive calls is exceeded, BT will charge for these calls until further notice."
So I think you've mis-understood it.0 -

These are the terms and conditions for calls to 0845/0870 numbers, and have not changed since they were made inclusive.
" Inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. Availability of inclusive 0845 and 0870 calls of up to 60 minutes duration (excluding indirect access numbers and dial-up internet access) dependent on residential BT Call Plan: weekends only (with the Unlimited Weekend Plan), evening & weekends (with the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan), or any time (with the Unlimited Anytime Plan). Fair use policy applies – max. 1,000 mins or 150 calls a month. If either of these limits on free calls is exceeded, BT will charge for these calls until further notice See Terms & Conditions for full details."

The unlimited inclusive geographical £4.95 a month call plan remains the same.
Suggest you reread the e-mail,before going off on one about BT.:D0 -
Hi,
Thanks for that. Just spoke to BT also and they confirm what you say. Have to say though that the email I received was not terribly clear as two items in terms and conditions did not mention 0845 although two other items did. I suggested that they should head this 'Changes to terms and conditions regarding use of 0845 and 0870.'
Have probably been a bit over analytical (paranoia rules ok) on this occasion.0 -

Whatever happened to the use of "Plain English" in terms and conditions. If it takes this much talk to try to interpret what they are saying, it definately isn't "Plain".0 -
Hi Toepazz,
Sorry for not spotting your post earlier. I have been looking into the price increases and can see that if you have the BT Answer 1571 service, you have to make at least two chargeable calls with BT a month or BT will charge (Incl. VAT) 98p a month for the standard BT Answer 1571 service.
If you make the 2 chargeable calls a month you will receive the BT Answer 1571 at no extra cost. If you are unhappy at being charge extra for the 1571 service you can request to have that service removed.
If you would like me to take a look at this in more detail, PM me your BT account information and I will be happy to take a look at this for you.
Thanks
Patrick

It's chargeable OR inclusive calls.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
