Laptop for £300-£350

I'm trying to help someone buy a laptop. They don't have one so I'm trying to scout around online but don't want to say 'how about this' and it's a lemon.
The budget is £300 - £350 and it is for just going online, emails etc doing occasional word documents (I suggested downloading open office) and possibly downloading a small amount of music but probably not much - if at all.
He has it in his head that if it has a big reduction, then it must be worth having  I've said in theory perhaps, but it might have been a pup and the store is now trying to shift. He saw an in-store Tesco laptop - an Acer down to £349 including £150 off and although he didn't know the spec, would have bought just because of the discount  (long way to go in terms of MSE training!)
So, what would be the suggestions? I've said if one is recommended from somewhere online (ie Dell/ebuyer) I could sort for him, or any in-store ones from the usual suspects where he can go and look for himself.
thankyou

either of them
the cheper of the two has higher specs all around really but has an amd processor as opposed to an intel which would be better
so its your choice
i would personally go with the cheaper amd based laptop
its a goods spec for the price
be warned though
the advertised price is after you claim £50 cash back off toshiba
so initially you have to pay over the budget to later reclaim £50 cashback bringing you within budgetBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
cheers jwebuk.........they are all above budget really though (£350 is top whack and would have to be a 'reduced' one  ). The inspiron 15 is one I looked at earlier - it has free delivery at the moment, is it any good?

the cheaper toshiba is the kind of area - yes. Is much known about laptops direct and the ease of getting the cashback? I've just googled them and the reviews aren't fantastic.

all these have 2GB, dual core, and are between £250 and £270 inc. delivery...probably can't go wrong
. And there's nowt wrong with refurbs, my lappy was a refurb and it came out of the box as new and has been trouble-free for 18 months
