Query regarding LHA and mutiple claimants at the same address.

I'm currently claiming LHA and live on my own. I have two friends who live with their parents, they are entitled to LHA. We're all entitled to £60 LHA p/week.

The 3 of use are wondering if it is possible for us to rent a 3 bedroom house for £600 pcm, each paying £50 p/week from our LHA?

All our names are on the tenancy agreement so can we submit that to the council and their pay us each £50 p/week?

How long can we get LHA for? Can we get it forever whilst we're claming incapacity benefit/JSA?

Thanks in advance.

I cant see why not, LHA will be payable for as long as you are on IB/JSA
  • Thought so. What do you think the chances of the other 2 each getting some sort of emergency fund (about £400 each) aswell as they are both being kicked out and have no place to go and need money for 1st months rent and deposits.

    thanks again in advance

first thing they need to do is go and see the local council, if they can get a letter saying they have been given notice to leave by X date as long as its no more than 28 days they can ask for help. at least they can discuss options with a housing officer.
Our council has a deposit guarantee scheme where they will help with a deposit guarantee for people threatened with homelessness.

only other thing i can think of is to apply for a budgeting loan - although it is so oversubscribed may not get it.

Crisis Loans will also give money for deposits/rent in advance, def not guaranteed though! As Beth says, contact the council many do a deposit bond scheme now
