Are you sure a laptop wouldn't suffice?
I've owned a Toshiba netbook with an 8.9in screen.
Horrendous...truly horrendous. It's so tiny and some programmes wouldn't run at the highest resolution.2019 Wins

Hi Hodders
Don;t be put off by the netbook DEpreciation society!
If a netbook is what H wants i.e. small, light, portable machine for surfing, MSN and watching iPlayer etc. then the Samsung is fine.
As macman stated, most netbooks are of a pretty similar spec but have a look at Ebuyer or Dabs. Ebuyer had a nice Compaq for £200 recently but their prices change daily.
Support from the DSG group of shops is not the best (as a search of these forums will indicate). I avoid them personally.0 -
While a laptop would suffice for home use, you could look at a slightly larger but still very portable 12.1 inch netbook. There's not much choice at present but this Lenovo S12 looks good for £325.

I need to buy H a netbook for his Birthday, PC World have the Samsung N110 for £329, which is supposed to be good on power but I haven't the faintest idea if the spec is good.
Can anyone give me some advice? Is this the best netbook around for the money? I know H doesn't have much patience when it comes to computers so something that is fairly quick would be handy.
Samsung NC10 available from Amazon for less than £290

My thoughts are that you should consider what it is to be used for.
Netbooks are aimed at a particular usage profile: easy portable web browsing.
If you will want to do more than that (ie. games, movies, music, word processing, etc.), then it may be more appropriate to go for a general-purpose laptop (with a larger screen).0 -

Having owned various netbooks and laptops, i agree with you fully. No need to limit yourself to a small screen, keyboard, and often low computing power when you dont need to.0 -
Always worth having a look at What Laptop - the website (which is at the link!) will be a month or so out of date, presumably because they want you to buy the magazine.
Ooh look - the mag has "£299 Laptops" on the cover!0
