hi, i never ever work out my wages each month (i know, im stupid) is there a way in which i could design a spreadsheet and do a full year and just put in what time i clock in and out each day then it would calculate it for me?
im on a 20hr a week contract and get a standard pay of £457 a mth then overtime is calculated seperatley along with my time and a half for a sunday?but we have different cut off dates each month?
is this going to be too difficult?

What you are suggesting is the easy part, but you would have to include National Insurance payments and the amount to be deducted monthly for your Tax Code (see Notice of Coding, or your last salary slip), plus any other things like expenses (added) and deductions (err...!). That is why firms have payroll packages to do these fairly straightforward but tedious calculations.
Perhaps someone knows a friendly accountant who could assist (Martin's uncle?!), or maybe there's a previously-designed UK-based spreadsheet available somewhere on the web?
A quick Google on UK spreadsheet wages brought up a number of hits, among which this one.
Good luck!

If you want to do the calculations properly on a weekly or monthly basis, look at the following documents on the PAYE Online for Employers: Technical Specifications page:
PAYE Tax Table Routine
NI Guidance for Software Developers for 2003+
Look at Notes for Software Developers, and you'll also need the current PAYE/NIC rates and limits.
The formulae are comprehensive because they need to cover all cases; you can simplify things considerably by only applying the formulae for your particular situation.0 -
