Low-cost printer for occasional use?

Hi,

Can anyone suggest a printer for me to use at home?

Since I have good printing facilities at work, I would not do much printing at home. My last printer (a Lexmark ink-jet) was only used infrequently, particularly since replacement cartridges are so expensive. The result is that ink has dried and blocked the nozzles, and now the whole thing is completely useless. I don't want to make that mistake again! So what is the best way forward?

A basic Epson would probably do the job and compatible cartridges are as cheap as chips. I have a C44UX and buy cartridges from HERE.

You might suffer from drying inks on many different printers. The easiest solution is to run a page through once a week or so .. it wastes ink but it is cheaper than a new printer.

I agree you could print out a few lines of texts or a couple but in bold print. I would say your risking the inks drying up if you don't have a printout every month?? In warmer conditions printing should be done more frequently like every 2 weeks?? There are other methods to preserve the ink like leaving it some solution so the nozzles don't dry up or putting it in water then leaving them in the fridge?

If you are not too bothered about colour at home, try a laser printer as it can't dry out. I have the Samsung ML1610 which is an excellent printer for around £50 online. The toner can also be refilled for around £7-8.
