leather sofa cover manufacturer fault

Hi,
I would be really grateful for any advice anyone has with regards to below.
In Feb 2008 we bought a sofa from a company named Espacio who are now bust.
They went bust whilst we were in talks (December 2008) with them about replacing the cover of our sofabed which is made of leather. It needed to be re-covered because a stain had appeared seemingly from nowhere straight down the middle. It was and has been getting worse and worse, now it looks like a water mark. I'm convinced its some sort of glue residue used in the production of the sofa. After the company went bust we tried to get the original manufacturer to accept some responsibility.(this took until July 2009 to get figured out because they are not based in this country)
So, the original producers of the sofa don't want to know and tell us to pay for a new cover costing £2800. I contact home insurance (August 2009), they dont want to know either. That really got me mad, we have been paying more th>n home insurance for more than 5 years, if I had said I ripped the cover we would have been dandy. We paid for the sofa on a credit card then paid it off immediately, but because the fault took a long time to become apparent, no one is taking responsibility for it looking like crap less than a year after we bought it.
Whats the chance of the credit card company paying for a new cover and if that doesn't come to anything what should our next steps be? We saved for ages to be able to pay for it and now it's ruined.
Thanks in advance

pursue cc company until the death.
either that or your onto plums dear!0 -
Who manufactured it ?
Do you have anything in writing to confirm you reported the fault within 12 months?
I would harass the manufacturer, all they need to do is send out an upholsterer to inspect it and confirm what caused the fault.
And £2800 for a new cover, what drugs have they been smoking !!£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0 -
the manufacturer has no contractual liability with the consumer though?
they dont need to do anything0 -
No but you'll get somewhere if you kick up a stink.
Is it a UK manufacturer?£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0 -
We have emails to the company that went bust and responses from them. The manufacturer as I mentioned is not interested and wont budge. They are based in Italy.
I need to get the CC company to pay for the cover I suppose.0
