Do you get any error messages?0

And did you add or remove any software immediately before it started happening?
Sometimes removing AV or firewall software can stop the network connection from working properly.
It would also help to say which OS you have.0 -
Reinstall it.
Andrew Rimmer 2009If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software0 -

think the last thing we added was a defraggler - operating on Windows XP and all the updates are okandrewrimmer wrote: »Reinstall it.

I had some problems with FF3.5.2 and IE8 yesterday after installing the latest java update. Cured by uninstalling the java update and restarting the PC.
The later could be a coincidence.
BTW Chrome was the only browser that continued to work. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

sort of fixed it - except it then continues to lose the next page so there's something awry with the settings.....
I've had problems - as already mentioned - this pc has a dongle - the laptop downstairs works - but the bt box is downstairs. So, I'm connecting via a dongle, but the connection is slow/and every so often I get the instructions 'unable to connect' etc.
any suggestions re this??Bern :j0 -

Unplug your router, leave for half a minute then replug back on.
Re. Firefox...An annoying problem probably best resolved with a reformat....0 -
Are you saying you are using a wireless dongle to connect to your router, or are you on mobile broadband?
If its the former maybe you have a poor connection, what does the wireless icon report when you float over it with your mouse.
I'd check out the system using an ethernet connection before moving on to sorting the wireless. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Is there adequate signal strength reported from the USB wireless adapter? If not use a USB extender on it to get it up higher and away from the big metal case of the PC.
Also try changing the wireless channel on the router to something different-it may be getting intererence from a neighbour's device on the same channel. Very common problem with the HomeHubs, as there are so many of them around, all on the same default channel usually 1. Try channels 6 or 11 instead. No free lunch, and no free laptop
