LOL @ No.5!!!
You missed one off the list - people are entitled to privacy in their own home and might not want some random walking around it when they're not there.
Oh, and it wasn't a complaint, it was a polite request for 24 hours notice. Yes it's an HMO, but that shouldn't make any difference surely!
Not as weird as it sounds.....I have to prepare my children a week in advance for any visitors due to their autism and even then it is a complete nightmare.
Their home is their safe haven. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Hmmm, i'd be annoyed at been given one hours notice.
I think 24 or 48 hours is reasonable.
Since you have mentioned your dog, can I just ask what the deal is with pets? Is it hard to get LL/LA to accept pets?
Reason I ask is because we are looking to rent at the moment, and have a cat.
Should we ask the LA now if the LL will accept pets?0 -

Precisely. I suffer from severe depression and if someone I am not expecting comes aroudn they dont get let in. Some people do need time to prepare for these things as little as they may seem to other people.
Re: the above post about the private letting and landlord just coming in. I would speak to your councils housing deparment they may be able to suggest some ideas but you are in the right, maybe times have changed but in this day and age its just not acceptable to waltz in to a property if you are letting it.
I'm actually getting nervious going from a big company where everythings ok and they always ask to come in etc to going to a single landlord!:rolleyes:0 -

Hi, I am a landlord, as a matter of course I usually do not allow pets due to the damage they might cause. But I am also an animal lover though and if a tenant approached me asking if he could stay but with an additional top up 'pet deposit' I would certainly give it some thought. The reason I metion this is you could approach landlords and simply ask them if they would consider this.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I am in a similar situation. My landlord has decided to sell the house I am in. I have had the estate agent coming around for the last couple weeks. I just switched shifts on my job and started working nights. I had already agreed to let him in prior to this to do a floor plan.. He came around at 3pm while I was asleep having gone to bed at 930am. I had arranged for a family member to be in the house while I was asleep. Firstly the EA was annoyed because I hadn't done my dishes and my laundry was on the radiators and he needed to take photos. Then he asked my family member what was going to be done about viewings since I was working "unsociable hours". He even then proceeded to insist he needed to take room measurements while I slept, but stopped short of making her wake me up so he could take a photo of the bedroom. My family member opened the door while he took one measurement, while I lay there sleeping. I felt I had to do this because When I first had objected to his proposed visit he said he had keys and could let himself in. I told him "No offense, I don't want a stranger walking around my house when no one is there." How do they know I am not asleep upstairs in bed. Next time do I have to go to another relative's house to sleep, or will he just walk in? I am not opposed to any of the viewings or what not, I just do not want my life to revolve around their plans.
And if one more LL says why wouldn't you let your LL in when you're not in? Would you let a man from your mortgage company come into your house while you are away? You should trust them right? You do have a mortgage with them? I am guessing you would not like a stranger walking through your most prized possessions, even if they technically owned the building they were in.0 -
jj5578: your landlord or letting agent need to give you at lest 24 hours notice IN WRITING if they want access and you are not obliged to comply or even give them a reason if it's not convenient. What I would suggest is that you give them certain days/times when you will be happy to give them access. You can change the barrels of the locks and still be inside the law if you keep them safe and replace them when your tenancy ends.
I can't believe the LE commented on your washing-up and laundry AND intruded into your bedroom while you were asleep. The nerve!0
