Safari and Beach Holiday

I've been reading through the other similar threads which have been a great help, but was wondering if someone could advise me any further....

I'm wanting to go somewhere (doesn't matter where) in Africa where we (there are two of us) can combine a beach holiday with safari (would like to see the big 5).

We'd be looking at going in Oct/Nov/Dec. Would this be a good time?

Ideally, we'd like to go for 10 days, with perhaps 4 of these spent on safari and the other 6 in an all inclusive hotel on/near to a beach.

I've saw a post which mentioned booking an AI holiday and then booking the safari when we're out there. I'm not opposed to this idea whatsoever, but if we went down this route, would like to guarantee that we could definitely do a safari once out there.

It does also seem a bit of a waste to have a hotel room empty for 4 days whilst paying to go on a safari during this time. But again, if this is the best way to do it, then that's fine.

Ideally we've got a budget of around £1000 per person.

Is what I'd like to do viable on the budget we've got?

I've tried to look at Kuoni's website but it seems to be down at the moment. I've also ordered a brochure from Somak.

So...is what I'm asking possible and if so, whereabouts in Africa would you suggest?

Thank you :)

For that budget stay in mombasa and take a 3 night safari to tsavo east, tsavo west and amboseli. (the masai mara is too far from there unless you fly).

Can definitley recommend Kuoni (if their website ever works again). Can't recommend any AI hotels but we stayed HB in the Safari Beach Hotel on Diani Beach and the Serena Beach Hotel (North Coast Mombasa). Both were excellent, the Serena plusher but then more expensive.

We opted to keep our room during the safari (estra supplement of about £20/night) but it saved the hassle of packing and unpacking again.

Our 2 trips to Kenya have probably been the best 2 holidays we've ever had - it's a great combination of beach & activity.
