Dvd Rom Hiccup - Any Suggestions?

Options
Hi,
I have a Fujitsu Scaleo T desktop, which has suddenly stopped reading any DVD's. The DVD RW does read them, but it kind of defeats the object if I want to copy any of my DVD's.

If I try to access it through 'My Computer' it reports no disc in the drive. However, if I put a music CD in the drive, it reads it, which seemed to indicate that the laser was still working (to me, anyway). Eventually it tells me that 'My Computer' isn't responding, and do I want to End Program (which then clears my windows toolbar, meaning I have to reboot.

I have tried several different DVD's, even brand new ones, but to no avail. It sounds like it's going through all the motions, and the disc does spin, but it just whizzes for ages, and makes all the sounds it usually did when trying to read a disc, then stops when it's given up.

Any ideas? The unit is about 18 months old, and I last used the DVD about a month ago, to check a new DVD, and it seemed to work OK, altho' it did take a couple of times to 'find' the DVD, as I recall.
