Question: What band Nelly Furtado was a member of in the 1990's?

Have found the following on this website Experts:-

During a visit to Toronto, after the summer of eleventh grade, she met Tallis Newkirk, member of hip hop group Plains of Fascination and contributed vocals to their 1996 album Join the Ranks on the track "Waitin' 4 the Streets".
After graduating from Mount Douglas Secondary School in 1996, she moved to Toronto where she eventually formed the trip hop duo Nelstar in 1997 with Newkirk.

Hence, as the question relates to the band she was in, not one where she just contributed vocals on 1 track, I'd say that the answer was Nelstar. (Wiki has similar information as well).

Slight caution re. this answer - I'm not a Nelly expert, so if anyone knows better, please say.
