Hi guys,
Basically discovered that loading on the 16-25 discount onto your Oyster card (for 33% of single travel and day travelcards) doesn't actually work on a student Oyster card. Over the course of a year I tried loading on the discount twice onto my student Oyster and after a while noticed that it wasn't working. So I complained to Oyster and received this reply:
Thank you for your email.
I beleive the problem is you are trying to load your discount onto your Student card. You will need to get a new adult Oyster card and load your discount onto that, and use that one for your pay as you go journeys.
Unfortunately we would not refund you for lost discounts in the past whatever the circumstances. So I would not be able to refund you for the period where you though t you had the diso!!!! loaded.
This is scandalous: name one person who would not want to load their discount onto their student card? Who actually thinks of putting it onto a new one!? I truly think this is disgusting of Oyster. There is no mention of this on either the Oyster or the 16-25 site.
So after more complaining, I received a £10 reimbursement for what I'm guessing is a loss of well over £100. Ridiculous. Just thought I'd put this out there so that people don't make the same mistake and to bomb them with emails to get some sort of reimbursement.

Not sure I have heard of that before
Your Student Oyster card comes with a 33% discount on all season tickets bought from TfL.
The pay as you go is non discounted - never has been. Students are adult rate on pay as you go, and it is advertised as such.
What "discount" did you try to load on your card - and how did you try to load it?
There is only one other type of discount you can get. This is where you take your National Rail Young person's Railcard to a Tube station and they will load a benefit on to your Oyster card. The benefit ONLY affects the Off Peak Cap on pay as you go (you get daily capped at a lower price) but you will still be charged the normal adult rate for single fares.0
