Parting Bead

I've managed to snap the parting bead from my sash window so am looking to replace it - none of the timber places locally seem to have the right size moulding (a bull nose strip 3/16th" wide by 7/8th"). The specialist sash window companies only seem to sell rubber strips or wooden ones with draft proofing brushes in - i just want a like for like replacememtn as don't want to see unsightly brushes - any one any ideas were to look next?

Hi Rachbc, Im a joiner ,the part bead seems very, very thin to me, are you sure about 3/16th thickness. The vast majority of part beads are either 8mm or 10 mm thick, are you sure its not 3/8th thick?,if it is 3/8th thick then you can use 10mm thick standard bead and sand down(some timber merchants sell part and staff beads ,could try a google search.
The thickness is important as the "weathering bevel on the "meeting rails"(meeting rails are the bottom tail of the top sash and the top rail of the bottom sash) is designed to shut tightly between the part beads.
Your probably not in my area but if by any chance you are PM me and I will run one out for you, but as I say 3/16th thick bead is very, very unusual 3/8th is more common....:D0 -
have triple checked and its def 3/16th...most of the supplied ones are as you say lots thicker...i've ended up sanding down a piece of strip wood but thanks for he kind offerPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
