XP Error Message

Switched on my laptop this morning only to get the blue screen of death with the error message "BAD_POOL_HEADER". Thankfully I switched it off and on again it seems to have booted up okay. From reading around seems it is usually related to installing something. Only thing I have installed was 2 Windows updates yesterday. Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks

  • If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software

This is usually a bad driver. There will be more text on the screen giving more details - search on something more specific than the effectively useless "bad pool header" which is about as much use as "blue screen" as a search term and you will probably be able to pin it down.

As an alternative a system restore should give some respite then be very circumspect about what updates you allow through and take a note of those which you do.

I am confused as I have not installed any new hardware and the only updates were 2 critical updates yesterday from Microsoft for Windows. Is the error message stored somewhere on my laptop so I can get the exact details of the problem?

Yes, it is. If you'd like to see the error message as it first appeared, try this.
