You would only change to a business account if you are trading on ebay (ie. buying goods with the intention to sell on for profit). If you are only selling personal unwanted items, you needto stay as a private account. Those of us with a business account also have to pay tax!

Also the fees are not lower for business sellers unless they have high turnover and reach the equivalent powerseller level. You pay insertion fees the same, unless you have a shop. Private sellers get 99p listings and below for free business sellers do not.

Business sellers also have to comply with all the DSR regulations as intepreted by ebay.

  • thanks soolin. Registered with Inland Revenue this am, appreciate I will be taxed on profits. will be buying / selling and whilst this is 2nd income it needs to be legit!

As I read the fees page the final value fee reduces from 9.9-10% to 8.25%?

    Thanks

The FVFs vary for business sellers, you pay 9% on media but only 8.25 on some categories and some are even lower but up to 9.9 % on some BINs.

Naughty Cyberbob Be quiet..I'm basking in it :rotfl:

To change to a business account, and be warned you can't change back, go to your 'my ebay' page and hover your mouse over the account tab at top, choose seller information and then the first option is account type, click edit and go from there.

You are only a business if you buy to sell on, if you just sell your own goods then stay as a private seller for as long as you can.

As a business you must register as such and then you are obliged to show a home address and contact details. I put mine on the 'my ebay' details which complies (as it stands at the moment) with the one click to see details requirement. You also have to provide refunds on request.
