why don't you take a readeing of the meter one day then check it 24hours later? You/she can then she how much is being used. Also as someone else said is it an estimated reading or did they cal to read the meter?
Is the meter economy 7 or usual domestic meter?0 -
i would suggest getting economy 7 and just heat the water up on cheap rate overnight and maybe getting a couple of storage heaters would work out cheaper than elec rads0

How much heating does she use?
It strikes me that a bill like that could easily be caused by having a few electric heaters on 24/7 during the winter months.0 -
Economy 7 offers 'cheap rate' electricity but the daytime tariff is usually higher than an normal 24/7 tariff to compensate - the standing charge can also be higher.
My dad thinks he gets a 'great' deal on E7 at 6.5p a unit night & 16.5p daytime. (He's fairly mad) You really would have to be nocturnal to gain any benefit ...0 -
She has had an immersion heater on 24/7 but surely they don't cost that much to run.
Sorry but the only correct reply to this thread is: LOL
The OP must be a troll surely.0 -
Another poster a while ago discovered she was also paying someone else's electricity (lived in a flat). I know this is a bit way out but are you sure that's not happening here?0

I guess whoever lives upstairs from the flat may be thinking their bills look a lot lower despite the weather and how they managed to get heated floors installed without realising0 -

However, that is not always the case. e.g check out Scottish Power standard rates based on pay quarterly for the Eastern (and some other)region.
You don't need to be nocturnal to take advantage of E7.
You can heat water overnight whilst asleep using cheap-rate electricity.
You can use night storage heaters and benefit from cheap rate electricity - they do exactly what they say, store heat using cheap rate overnight electricity and dissipate it during the day.
You can also use timers on many other appliances (e.g. washing machine, dishwasher, etc) and benefit from the cheap rate overnight electricity."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
