Cat D on a newer car is possibly a fairly big repair.

On an older car then it could be a lot less. If the cars worth £3500 then the repairs will have been a similar figure. Thats potentially a lot of damge.

£3500 for a Cat D 2004 car.. Way too much i think. Totally different car but my 2004 Mondeo was just over £2000 in 2009.

  • I understand that I can buy back my cat-d total loss car from my insurers for a certain percentage.
I've been told under good authority that this is 15% of the value. However, the insurers are saying that a cat-d is 20%, and because it is an Audi, the salvage buy-back costs more.
I have a hunch that they are trying to fob me off here! Can anyone enlighten me?
Oh, should I accept the first offer on a claim?

covers pretty much all you need to know. You should get the retail/dealer figure

As for buying the salvage, really it's either worth what they are asking or it's not
  • There is another category of write off that people have not mentioned
It's car f. Means the car has been involved in a fire. Find out more about all here. Nice and simple expiations https://www.carcheckuk.co.uk/Insurance-write-off-categories

I was on copart the other day and there was a damaged Pathfinder and it was not down as a Cat F. Vandals had tried to burn it and the rear seats were burnt.
