Hi

I have just begun my financial hardship route to re-claiming my bank charges. I have been made redundent and am a single parent mum. I clled halifax and requested statements from July 2001 as the site suggests. They said they can only provide from the last 6 years by law is that correct? I was a student in 2001 and a single parent and remember getting loads of charges. Does that mean i cant claim for those charges between july 2001 and August 2003?

All advice greatly appreciated

Take your details out of the post ie name and locations with the edit key. I have removed it from mine.

Tell them that under the FSA waiver on bank charges the clock stopped on the announcement of the Bank charges test case so it is 6 years back from 27th July 2007.

"(5) the firm must continue to maintain and preserve personal current account and other records concerning customers that incur or may have incurred unauthorised overdraft charges (whether or not they have complained) that are (or could be) relevant for the handling of existing or future relevant charges complaints by the firm, the Ombudsman, the court or otherwise; these records must be maintained and preserved in a way which ensures that they are as easily and readily available for the period until this condition terminates as they were when the 2007 direction started;"

Furthermore the FSA wrote to them in March reminding them of their responsibilities. Tell them they are wrong and are not complying with the FSA Waiver.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • Thanks

I called them back and stated what you said. They appologised profusley and said all statements dating back to July 2001 would be with me in 7-10 days. They even thanked me for calling. Bless them.

    Feeling very positive

    Thanksssssssssssss
