Ebay Euro payment.

I won a item on ebay, and the seller only accepts bank transfer, he is in Germany.
I thought he took Paypal(my mistake)

Anyway i went into the Halifax to enquire about sending a payment of 47 euro, they want £20 for sending it. I also have internet banking and they still chage £9.50.

Is there a cheaper way to send the 47 euro?
A thankyou is payment enough .

Did you buy on ebay uk or on ebay.de? If you bought on ebay .uk go back and check the auction as paypal should be offered, you will see the paypal logo somewhere near the top on the RH side as well as on the payment details. If this was a UK listing then you are entitled to pay by paypal and seller can't refuse.

If however the listing was made on ebay Germany then the rules are different and you will have to abide by his payment methods unless he is showing the paypal accepted logo.

About £7-£12 is the going rate for a bank transfer in Euros unfortunately.

Oh bother. If it was listed on ebay UK then they must have had paypal offered. I would previously have said it was impossible for them to have removed the paypal logo but recently I was shown a listing where the logo had been removed..the seller did turn out to be dodgy but that is another story.

I think I Might be tempted to try live help.

Paypal is a requirement on all listings for auctions on ebay.uk. It doesn't matter which country the seller is registered in, if they list on uk they abide by the rules.

There are exceptions, some bigger sellers used to be exempt from the paypal requirements but there were few of them and they were the very big household names. Also as I mentioned I did see a small private seller with no paypal logo recently, but I assume he had done something clever to the auction page coding as he did turn out to be dodgy. I really wouldn't be happy to use bank transfer as a buyer knowing I had no protection at all.

It has occured to me that if the auction was entirely in euros then you must have signed in on a European ebay site. Items listed on ebay.uk would have had the main currency in sterling. I'm puzzled at the moment.
