Do you have to be a super DIY'er to do decking or could my DH manage it!
(he tries hard, is reasonably competent but is most definately not a super DIY'er)0 -
i managed it..
i got the wood delivered on a Saturday afternoon, got bored and put the frame together the same afternoon. Never done it before but it was a piece of !!!!!!. build the outside frame and then put the middle pieces in, not too far apart or you'll fall through it.
Once that's done add the decking slabs.0 -
scheming-gypsy, did you read anything to tell you how to make the frame0

if you want the truth i ordered the wood, got it delivered and thought 'what the f*ck do i do now?' cracked open a can of lager and decided i had to do something with it.
i'd already decided how wide i wanted it and ordered the wood to suit. I knew it'd be about 12ft x 7ft, ordered 4mtr lengths of timber. 2 pieces for for the width and i wanted it about 7ft wide so i cut them down. At this point i had 2 12ft pieces and 2 7ft pieces. Nailed the 2 12ft pieces to 1 of the 7ft pieces to make a rectangle with an edge missing (big square C). Then you just space more 7ft lengths of timber along the 12ft's till you get to the other end so you've got a frame. I also put them the other way too so i got a big drunk oblong chess board kinda shape.
You need to have it so you won't fall through the decking planks when you put them down so just don't leave big gaps... i may have pics so i'll have a look.0 -

THanks to both BlondeHeadon & schemeing Gypsy. Showed your response to DH, who says you go in for the same type of DIY as him. He is starting to decorate the hall this pm so has gone to supermarket to get some cans in!0

£154.60 per 3mt x 3mt kit (equates to £17.17 per m2)
includes 45x95 C16KD treated joists & heavy duty deckboards
I think this would be the one you need . For an area this size I reckon you require 8 lens 4.8mt 45x95mm KD C16 whitewood regularised and treated joists and 60 lin mt 28 x 145mm redwood treated decking board.
Easy fix for DIY , durable (as long as you treat with preserver) and quite nice looking
As for economical . . . .at £154.60 + VAT for 9m2 you can make your own mind up on that one
But where does this deal come from?0 -
Don't buy decking from a DIY store.
Decking from a trade wood yard is thicker and less prone to 'warping' and makes a more solid finished surface.0
