TV turning itself off. Why?

For the last couple of weeks my Sony TV has occasionaly been turning itself off. Its now doing it more frequently and has done it twice so far today. When it does it the stand by light flashes 3 times (dont know it this might mean something )

It is connected to Sky.

Any ideas?

The flashing standby light is an error code. It shows there is a problem with the TV which requires professional attention.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!
  • Yes it is an old FD Trinitron, think its about 6-7 years old.

Just told hubby what you've said and he said straight away "Oh good that means we can have a new one" Not very money saving is it.....................

    Ooooohps, its just gone again.

i dont know if this helps, but my tv kept turning itself off when a sky box update set the sky box to auto turn off or going into standby (i can not remember which) after a stupidly short time, can you check to make sure its not that that is causing the problem?
or maybe the tv turn off / standby timer has been accidently set?
    just my two cents.

I've got one of the good old 28inch KV Trinitron's :)

I'd buy a new TV if there were actually anything ever on to watch. Ive had the full sky package and my friends have the full cable package and there's still nothing to watch lol

My old Hitachi used to do this and I got a TV repairman from the local paper to come and have a look. 10 minutes and two blobs of solder later the TV was fine. It cost me £15. The TV was still OK a couple of years later when I gave it a friend - he still uses it as a spare.
