They have offered the account continuously for several years.

I would expect them to continue offering it.

Given that they appear to be promoting it heavily in press and on television, I would expect there to be a few more weeks where the rate is at 5% for new customers.

Thanks "opinions4u" ive got a fixed rate account closing in "2 weeks" (firstsave) so think ill go with this "Halifax Regular Saver account" @ 5% looks good .

You could open one now with £25 to secure the rate and then add up to £500 a month by standing order from September onwards.

You could also add a further August payment by standing order of up to £475.

Hope that makes sense.

It's a Regular Saver capped at £500 a month.
