What can i make for dinner tonight?

Been working all day, and not had anything to eat except some toast :(

I'm all on my ownsome tonight, as my mum doesnt come back from holiday until early tomorrow morning.
I'm in the mood for actually trying to properly cook something, instead of throwing something in the microwave.

Any ideas what quick and easy for a beginner to make? Also no fruit or veg in it please (phobia)

    Pasta with cheese sauce?

    Pasta is easy, the cheese sauce you can do in the micro.

    1/2 oz marg, melted.
    Add 1/2 oz plain flour. Mix.
    Add 1/4 pint milk, mix and heat in micro to make white sauce.
    Add grated cheese, mix, microwave again to melt.
    I do the microwaving in 1/2 minute bursts, then stir, repeat til it seems right.

    I also add tomato and diced onion to mine, but it's not needed for the basic sauce as you don't care for veggies.

    I've halved the amounts I use for the two of us, so should be about right for one person, hopefully.

    I think that might be butter ... but in any case Lurpak'll do.

    However, flour is pretty compulsory.... in which case, maybe you could just nuke/melt the cheese into the pasta and forget making an actual sauce. This works.... Just mix the pasta with the cheese and nuke it for a minute, stir, nuke, stir... 2-3 minutes and the cheese should be melted and mixed in.

    Lurpak would do fine, though you'd need to melt it on a lower setting so that it doesn't spit.

    You do need the flour, though, to thicken the sauce. Cornflour would do if you have that.

    You can always save this idea for another day.;)

    Swift Edit: Well though of, PasturesNew.

    Gotta dash now, Mr LW will be in shortly.

  • Don't have cornflour either...no one in this house knows how to cook :( I've lived off ready meals for the past 22 years! lol

    Just after spending the past couple of days on this board, i've had the urge to learn to cook. But i think it'll be chicken nuggets and micro chips for me tonight

    Hi

    Do you have any eggs in the house? Any milk, cream or yoghurt? Bacon?

    Cook the pasta, then add one beaten egg, plus some cheese or bacon if you have them. A little top of the milk, cream or plain yoghurt is nice.

    Mix it all up. if the pasta is hot enough, the egg cooks into a creamy sauce. If not, blast on low power for about 15 seconds and then check it again.

    or you could do the whole job in a saucepan.
    If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • ok, i've had a quick look through the cupoards. There was some plain flour hiding back there, think from last year maybe?
    It says Aug 09 on it, so asuming it'll be ok...no cream or youghrt though.

    But we do have about 6 packets of "instant cheese sauce mix"
    think that'll do?

    There is also a packet of bacon in the freezer

    This is what I make when haven’t got much in. You do need to have most of the ingredients in stock though. I tend not to use all the cabbage too and have even managed to keep it for a few weeks as well believe it or not as I don’t mind using old cabbage. If you didn’t already know, sauerkraut is made form mature cabbage hence for my reasoning of not minding using old cabbage. And believe it or not this is quite quick to make, perhaps about ½hr altogether.

    If you make enough you’ll have plenty for 2 days at least. And if so just reheat for about 10mins. Easy peasy!!

    1 clove of garlic, 1 x 10ml spoon oil, ¼ cabbage, 1 or 2 veg stock cubes (or you could use fresh stock), 1 onion, 800ml boiling water, (I usually use just over a mug full), 1 stick of celery, 1 x 5ml spoon mixed herbs, 1 carrot, 1 x 15ml spoon tomato puree, 1 potato (or more if preferred), Black pepper, 1 tomato
    optional - 25g small pasta shapes or broken spaghetti, 1 or 2 rashers of bacon

    Method
    1. Prepare the vegetables and bacon:
    peel and crush the garlic;
    shred the cabbage;
    peel and chop the onion;
    slice the celery;
    peel and dice the carrot;
    peel and dice the potato;
    chop the tomato;
    chop the bacon, with a fresh knife on a clean chopping board.
    2. Fry the onion, garlic and bacon in the oil for 2 minutes.
    3. Stir in the carrot, celery and potato.
    4. Add the stock (water and stock cube mixed together).
    5. Stir in the sliced tomato and finely shredded cabbage.
    6. Add the mixed herbs, tomato puree and black pepper, bring to the boil and then simmer for 10 minutes.
    7. Add the pasta and allow to simmer for a further 10 minutes.

    Dang!! I was going to make shepherds pie tonight but just remembered I’ve no potatoes in. Looks like shepherds without the pie. I think I’ll just make do with toast as it’s quicker than anything else I’ve got in. The shepherds pie is left overs and usually last me about 3 days all together.

    I was also going to make some Gazpacho earlier too but discovered I’ve no tomato passata. I use passata instead of tomato juice as I probably wouldn’t use all the tomato juice. This takes an age to make though but worth it.
  • thanks for that, but i cant eat veg
