Questions about windows 7 upgrade

I currently have windows vista home premuim 32-bit. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 proffessional 64-bit when it comes out.
Do i have to do a clean install? I heard you could upgrade? Will the full product that is available for pre-order allow me to upgrade? If not where can i buy the upgrade? And is it possible to upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit OS?
I need a fast response because i want to pre order while there is still a discount.
Thanks

There is technically no Win7 upgrade product for UK at all, however if you do get an "upgrade" it really is a full version, which will require a wipe and reinstall from fresh, and due to MS bowing to EU pressure it also won't have IE 8 installed. So backup everything first.0

There will be upgrade versions available. The decision has been made to offer the 'ballot screen' to the user of the computer rather than completely removing Internet Explorer, subsequently the 'E' versions are no longer going to hit the market.
It's irrelevant to the OP anyway because you can't upgrade from a 32 bit to a 64 bit operating system so you will need to perform a full clean installation anyway. In addition you wouldn't be able to use an upgrade version of 7 to go from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional, you would be restricted to Home Premium then you'd have to do a Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU) to go to pro.
OP, you need to buy the full version of 7 Professional if that is the version you want.0 -

Is there a reason you need the professional version?
Just look at this easy to follow series of ten tables in order to work out which product edition you need.0 -
'Upgrading' a Windows OS is always hit and miss in my experience anyway. Far better off with a clean install each time.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I guess it depends on what you understand the term upgrade to mean... leave in place files/settings and install over the top (normal understanding), or clear everything and install clean. (The former is what, I suspect, most people understand by the term upgrade, rather than wipe and install from fresh...)
UK upgrades may well say "upgrade" on the box, but all the installer will be is the full "Euro" version. There is no way to "upgrade" a Vista install, keeping the files, apps and settings in place to "upgrade" to Win 7, in the same way there was upgrades to other OS versions.
Agreed, it's a moot point as OP has wrong version for required move anyway.
Whilst as an IT bod, I always think it's best to wipe and start again, most home users won't be happy with that route I suspect.
Mis-marketing and the usual farce from MS.0 -
Yes but they aren't upgrades really are they, not in the true sense of an upgrade? Not in the UK.

In Place Upgrades are available on Vista which retain files, applications and settings. XP users won't benefit from that, which is understandable.0 -
Ok i guess im going to have to install the hard way. That kinda sucks but i hate vista so im going to have to do it. New question, since windows 7 comes with a 32 and 64-bit disc. Could i use one disc for desktop and another disc for my laptop but use the same license?0

A clean install is the best way to do it anyway.New question, since windows 7 comes with a 32 and 64-bit disc. Could i use one disc for desktop and another disc for my laptop but use the same license?
lol....now, what do you think the answer to that question is?0 -
If you want to simply try Windows 7, then you could always try an install on a 'vitual machine'.
You can buy an upgrade version, just order it from the states.Never Knowingly Understood.
