SAAS funding award notice...is this right?

I got my SAAS award notice today, yay! I only filled out the form last week as well!!

Anyhoo it just seems really different from what i got last year.

Last year i was awarded:
YSB: £2,510.00
Loan: £2,018.00
Tuition fees: £1,225.00

monthly: £340

and this year i'm being awarded:
YSB: £2,640.00
Loan: £1,684.00
Tuition fees: £1,820.00

monthly: £451???!!!

It seems that i'm getting an awful lot more money a month than i did last year? I'm not complaining though, but if it is a mistake, i'd rather it be sorted now than take my loan and bursary away at the end of the year.

If this is your final year you will get less overall because it doesn't need to cover the summer months. That may be why the individual monthly payments have increased. However, I would contact SAAS just to make sure of this.
  • no, i'm just starting uni this year. Going into 3rd year.

You don't get your loan and bursary during summer anyway! (i miss it so much right now!)

No, you don't but the money is meant to cover the summer months.

You have said that you are only wanting to do third year and leave after, so it would be your final year. Again, I would really contact SAAS because if it is a mistake then it's best to get it sorted as soon as possible.
  • hmm i dunno, i'm pretty sure when i filled it out i said i was going into 3rd, but it would take me 2 years to do it, as i only found out last week i might be able to do 4th year too.

Surely you don't get the tuition fee loan on a monthly basis, it's paid directly to the university?

That's right, but everything else is paid on a monthly basis. The monthly payments don't really seem to add up to me, but maybe I'm just thinking of it wrong. I'm yet to apply to SAAS for this year since the HMRC has mucked up my dad's tax stuff.
  • ahh i realised what i've done.

You know how you get the seperate letter from the student loan company about your loan.

And the first months payment is also a double payment??!!
    Duh totally forgot that.

So that means in September i'll get £800 odds as it will be a double payment

then £431 a month after that until May
  • Travel expensis are included in this years loans , no sepparate claim for them , bit of a con , considering you have to pay student loan back , and didnt have to pay travel back in the past
