Powerpoint templates opening in Master view

Hi
Made a Powerpoint (2003) template for everyone where I work.
The problem is that when we're using it, any new document (it's now set as default) opens in Master view, rather than 'normal'.
I know there is a way around this by Tools>Options>default view>normal..
but I can't work out what's wrong with the Master/template file that's making it open in master view to begin with.
I've gone back into the template and saved it making sure the view is normal, and then replaced the file, but no joy.
Any ideas?
Thanks
