Jet2 Booking - Absolutely Furious!

  • What you have to remember about low cost airlines is that they make money from extras. The seat is dirt cheap, but that's all you get. The trend in this sector is towards the a la carte approach: paying for bags, seat reservations, meals, drinks, etc, as well as offering car rental, travel insurance and hotels on their web sites. Their biggest mark up seems to be baggage surcharges, ie where your case is too heavy. You can often end up paying two or three times as much as your original ticket if you do this.
Refunds cost money, so they do everything to avoid giving these.
You need to write to the Transport Users Council, who will write to the airline if you don't get a satisfactory reply!
I know, they managed to get money out of Ryanair for me after a cancellled flight!

i used jet2 for the first time in june and wouldn't hesitate in using them again, i did have to un check the extra boxes though.
I find the flight great and staff helpful but as jolly_ roger says, watch your baggage weight as this is where the budget airlines make there profit by charging you extra, although we had free 22kg allowance which is better than most airlines so didn't have a problem.

I think your mum should just put it down to experience though.

could she raise a dispute with the card company she used to book with?
  • Why should AgentGibbs' mum put it down to experience? According to the OFT, 'airlines should not automatically add any optional extras', so in this particular case Jet2 seems to be in the wrong.

If people just throw their hands in the air and say 'oh dear' when things like this happen, these companies will continue to rip people off.

Thats what the OFT have said but it is in no legal terms at the moment. The OFT said 't while it is up to specific airlines to decide how they set charges, the group could get involved should it appear that passengers are being misled.'

So quoting the OFT will get the OP nowhere. As for the EU legislation, it has no legal power at all, even the MSE article admits that!

I don't know what the OP's mother has done but its obviously her fault. I've gone through exactly what the OP's mum did, I even hit the back browser and have yet to have meals added

I cannot see how the final screen could be clearer as you enter payment detail. Id say the OP's covering for an obvious mistake and trying to claw some cash back and I'm backing jet2 here
