Charges not showing on line for 2 months

Hi all, has anyone any experience of this?

I have a bank account with barclays which is has an overdraft which is fully used. There is also what they call a reserve on there of £150 pound which if i use will incure charges.

However, any charges on the account were not being applied to the account on the day of incuring them, instead they'd appear 1 month later (only found this out yesterday) and did not show on may account on line until this time.

Because of this whenever i thought i was paying a fine immediately it was actually a month late. As a result a new charge was waiting in the wings but not showing on my account, when i would shore up the account to bring me back within my agreed limits the new charges would be imposed and any direct debits that were paid were then subject to another set of charges. The account is only used for 1 direct debit and because i thought i has sorted it i do not check it regularly.

This resulted in Barclays calling me yesterday asking for £229 in unpaid charges and said there was another £88 in charges to be paid. I offered to pay all but they said they could only take payment for the first £229. My agrument is that had the FULL charges been visable on my online account then i'd have paid them in full months ago and not gotten into this mess!

It seems that in delaying the appearance of fines on my account thay are hiding the full chargesf rom me and as such never giving me the oppotunity to pay them off in full.

Has anyone else any experience of this? I have asked for a full list of charges (6yr) and plan to claim them back. Ist here any other course of action i can take?

Thanks

Matt

  • No bank can win on this one. If they charge you straight away they are wrong or if they give notice(and they should give notice to you) then they are wrong anyway.
Did you check your account to make sure charges HAD gone out of the account rather than assuming that it was ok?
I would get rid of the Reserve though cos it is blindingly obvious who is getting the better deal and it isn't you.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • I have had the reserve removed as soon as i noticed all of this happening. The charges used to come out immediately but in Jan this changed.

This all strated back in April, unfortunately i went over my limit by about £2.40 and did not notice. (recently started work so silpped under the radar with other things taking prioity.) When i again went over the limit in June i saw charges and thought they were current. These appear to have been for April and as result i have been one set of charges behind since then.
