I believe some people have been known to give/hire/sell/lend them to family and neighbours who are not entitled to have one of their own.

I really dont see how that can happen, they have the persons photograph on them:confused: like a passport photo

I'm sure a lot of the cost of this scheme is being fiddle by the bus companies, I know several pensioners who use the bus pass and sometimes they are never given a ticket and sometimes the driver will have printed out a whole load of tickets and just hand them out as people show their pass, at the end of the journey who is to know that 30 bus pass holders travelled to the end at £5 each or got off at stop one at £1 each. The bus pass should be swipable just like a bank card then there could be no fiddling.

Like most things with this government there is no financial control at point of service, on second thoughts no control anywhere.

Exactly, as good as a passport photo ;) now do you see how they get away with it?

I mean if you are a 65 year old white haired lady with glasses you don't "lend" it to a 50 year old dark haired man. You "lend" it to your 58 year old white haired sister.
Watch how carefully the drivers check every single one

    .

The Scottish ones are. Both the bus company and the local council have a record of all the journeys on their databases

As far as i am aware the bus companies are not reimbursed for every single journey that is made by a pssholder. There is a set amount of money given to the bus companies per year and they just have to work round that.

I can see you don't know very many young pensioners. ;)
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Here they had 98p per journey. The bus route cutting company near me changed the route before they dropped it, so to get to the main shopping area that the folks like you had to change buses... and they got another 98p

But it meant you had to travel 7 miles to get somewhere 4 miles away!
