How do I get the best deal with BT (phone and broadband)?

I am with BT and don't really want to change but I have no contract so I am wondering if I am in a good bargaining position.
I currently pay £18.45 per monthh for unlimited anytime calls and broadband is £17.60 per month option 1.
Can I reduce this without switching providers?
I am in an area with no cable available and limited broadband providers due to our exchange.

Yes (well, I did).
Phone and ask when your contract(s) are due to expire and say you're exploring other possible options.
You should be offered a reduction on your broadband if you agree to another 12 month contract. I got mine down to under £8/month.
That £18.45/month seems a little high to me. £11.25 for the line + £4.95 for the Unlimited Anytime Plan = £17.20. Are you paying by DD and have you opted for paper-free billing?
Anyway, there's a little room for a discount on the line rental - I managed £2/month for 12 months.
If/when your Anytime contract is over, you may benefit from studying your bills to see whether you really need weekday daytime calls. BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan is free if you agree to a renewable 12 month contract and using 18185 for your daytime calls (5p each regardless of duration) may work out cheaper.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Lol I just phoned, came back to post the outcome and I was offered the £2 a month of line rental, £1 a month off the anytime plan to 3.95 and I changed to paperless billing.
I couldn't budge them on the broadband much I got it down to £12.72 and a free home hub. But I know that I would have trouble with changing broadband providers due to our area and exchange so I'm pretty happy.

You have access to most BB suppliers even on a non-LLU exchange. However, as the only provider is BT Wholesale you are unlikely to see much of a saving if you do switch. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

As far as I can see you got a saving of nearly £8 per month in total - not bad for a phone call!!0
