Why do you need a amonitor to tell you that when something is turned off it doesn't use any electricity?0

gee why didnt i think of that !!!
i want one so i can see what each appliance is costing me then i can decide if i need to replace with a newer/more efficient item .my op doesnt ask for your permission only peoples recommendations .0 -
I have one, I now know what everything in my house uses.
If you switch something on it immediately tells you how much electricity you are using, try finding that out in the middle of the night when it is pouring with rain and your meter is outside and you live next to a bus stop.
You get some funny looks and comments.
Must remember to put it on Ebay, wonder if it will sell without a power supply?0 -
ive opted for one that you plug your appliances into , thank for your reply.0

That is exactly what you need for your purpose ... and cheaper than a total usage monitor such as the Owl.
Both have their uses, but now you have described what you wish to achieve, the owl would not have met that requirement."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Some of the plug-in types, although useful, actually contain their own small transformer which will also consume electricity in themselves. This is probably only something in the order of 11w but worthy of note.0

11 watts seems a huge amount. Most versions I've seen are powered by battery, typically small button cells, which certainly wouldn't last long if they needed to supply 11 watts."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Funny enough Ive just ordered one of those
£35 delivered from Grattan (cheapest i could find it), thought i would give it a try, if its no good it will go back.

Do you have any particular model in mind?

As I understand things, some of the earlier models have the transformer - although there are so very few to choose from. Some do re-charge the onboard battery - again with the transformer. I guess the advice might be to read the small print.0
