I use soya oil for normal cooking but have never tried for chip frying. Usually buy oven chips.

Having said that I am not good on what oils are good for you and which aren't. I work on the basis that I use very little oil in cooking so it really doesn't matter. Being Indian and cooking lots of curries ets., I have to be careful how much I use. Ghee is preferred but I only use that in a couple of recipes. Off on a tangent, I know... sorry.

I always use Rapeseed oil as it contains Omega 3 and is cheap.

There has been a lot of scaremongering about rapeseed and canola oil - and there is much on the internet on both sides of the argument - here is another perspective:

Yes there is two sides of the argument my first side was before I was 40 I never took any interest in what I ate.

Now 6 years later after suffering from IBS my only cure is eating a more healthy diet based on foods I can TRUST not to do me harm.

Lard, Dripping, Butter etc. have been around for as long as man has been eating animals and animal products. Vegetable oils such as Olive oil etc that are easy to abstract have also been around for a long time.

It seems that our health problems were never such a issue until we started making oils that can only be made by industry.

I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
