Contract at Virgin active

I am currently using a Vigin Active gym on a diamond membership plan. I tried to quite the gym as I will be moving soon. I was told it is a 12 month rolling contract and the only way out is to serve the full term or buy back the contract.

I am into the new years contract by only 3 months and was not informed when the new year started. Is there any way out for me??

Any help very much appreiciated

Many Thanks Tony.

So every time you go into a new year of membership, you're committing to an entire 12 months without even signing anything?

I'm sure I've read somewhere about this being an unfair term in the contract. Are you moving far enough away that you won't be able to go any more? Is there not another Virgin active gym near where you're moving to?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Yes, after 1 year the contract automatically rolls into a new 12 month contract with no notification.

As expected the contract seems to have me and other users on the diamond contract over a barrel. It has the usual get outs - if you become pregnant or are unable to use the gym for over 3 months due to injury (Dr's certificate needed).

I am moving far enough away to make it an unsuitable gym and there next closet gym is about an hour from my new location.

I just don’t understand, especially in today’s economic climate and normal changes in your life that you cant predict a year in advance!!!
  • you need to read my thread! I joined Virgin 5 years ago and its a 12 month ROLLING contract, you can ONLY ever get out of this contract on the anniversary of when you joined! ie, if you signed up in feb, you have to give 30 days notice on Jan of each year or else they resign you back in for another year without warning. If you get any tips let me know, and vice versa. They never advised me either of the T&C's, it was a stealth small print. I'm fuming!
