Painter & Decorating Prices

I am thinking of getting someone in to paint lounge/Dining room but trying to keep costs down, it is 32ft long x 15ft approx, it has just been replastered and I was thinking of doing the priming ourselves and getting a decorator to then do the Emulsioning. We have always done our own decorating so have no idea whatsoever what they charge, do most charge a daily rate or give a one off price?

I think it varies, some give a one off price, some have a daily rate. I'm in the process of trying to sort out a decorator at the moment & had a bit of advice from somebody who posts here as to how long it should take & approx amount of days it should take.

I've had one quote for the whole job, which was a shock, much more than I'd expected & he obviously wasn't paying attention when I said I'd be supplying my own materials.

I've had somebody else come & have a look who has a daily rate & if I use him & it takes the approx time he thinks it will, it will cost half the price of the first decorator.

I might try for one more quote, just to see how it compares.

What I need doing is stripping some textured paper & putting up lining paper then emulsioning. I used to be able to do my own decorating, but sadly, arthritis in my hands has put a stop to that.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

My Aunt and myself have been design decorating for a number of years now and we never compromise on anything. This is a problem for most people, as they do not want to pay the price for top quality preparation.
We are both of the opinion that we want nothing less than perfection, and although we charge a daily rate for a 7 hour day, we usually end up doing anything up to 12 hrs(fools that we are). When we finish the job, we are always blown away by the look of the house/room/whatever and are always proud of our work. I really dont think you should be looking for someone to do the emulsion though. Just take your time. It is the preparation work that you put in that will make the difference. regards Jimbo
