Quick prescription question......

Can any one tell me how long a prescription is valid for from issue date in Scotland ?

My doc prescribed me painkillers, but told me only to get them if i needed them. This was March 1 and now I need them for my aches and pains, but don't wish to bother her again for a new one just to be told I could have used the old one.

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I'm in England, but believe prescriptions are valid for 6 months from issue.

Do you know where I can find this info out at all, as I have looked at the NHS website, but can't see the validity rules ?

most prescriptions are valid for six months in Scotland, the only exceptions being controlled drugs (such as morphine). Co-dydramol, co-codamol, dihydrocodeine, tramadol will all be valid for six months

    hi alison,

you could try googling the Prescription Pricing Authority, (sorry am no good at linky things), there is loads of info on there, I'm sure what you need is in there somewhere.
    it applies to the UK.
