Best way to get rid of large CD collection???

I have a large collection of CD albums, approx 400 in total.

Want to get rid, as I just dont have the space to house them anymore.

Im wondering what will be the best way to do so??

I dont really fancy selling each one individually on ebay, but boxed together they weigh a tonne!!!

What would be my best way to sell.......ebay job lot?? Have heard some horror stories about collections in person.....dont know if I fancy this??
How much should I expect to get per CD??

Would it be better just to take them all to a car boot??
I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.

Have a look through Amazon at any that might be worth something and sell some on there.
You could probably reasonably send 200 CDs in a courier parcel if you wanted to do in joblots on Ebay. There's a cheap courier thread on here. You can get collection and delivery for around £8 per parcel or if you wanted you could use the Pacelforce service via Ebay and Paypal which costs £10.99 but has inbuilt tracking so less chance of a problem.

Sell them quick though, from October CDs are one category where free postage is required.

I just gave about 100 CDs to a charity shop, as you can buy CDs so cheaply now, I decided it wasn't worth the effort selling them.

Rather than give RM the pleasure of postage money, I figured I'd let the charity shop try and make some money from them instead.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Just to clarify, that is on Ebay and doesn't apply to wholesale lots, so if you wanted to sell 6 or more, list in wholesale and postage can be applied.

I have just discovered that free postage applies to dvds too. I had no idea and have spent over a week and a half trying to post a sale and getting caught in a loop that tells me I can only key in £0.00 postage and if I do that it tells me I have to key in an amount. The only way I found out about this outrageous and ridiculous policy was by contacting them by email in frustration. I have four separate dvds to sell - hardly a job lot - but will never sell with ebay again. If I was a trader I could understand this stupid policy but I am unemployed and cannot afford to give away free postage - or add it to the cost of the dvd which would make it uncompetitive. Why don't they have a traders and private sellers code as they do in newspaper classifieds so you can tell who is who, instead of this idiotic policy that excludes the poor and unemployed. I'm going to use Amazon or a rival e-auction firm. This policy does not inspire loyalty, they are turning it into a commercial only sellers company!

Have you ticked the free p&p box? (if you still want to sell)

I've just discovered it applies to DVDs too as I was listing a box set this morning, which will cost around £2 to send 2nd class.
I didn't think it applied as I was watching the same box set to get an idea on how much they were going for and the seller was boasting about the free P&P on the item

Ebays reasons for free postage are stupid imho about how it's to be more competitive with other online shops - yes they offer free postage but they are businesses :(
So to make it worth while listing something you have to factor in postage to your start price which surprise surprise will take most people out of the free listing fee band:rolleyes:

I would take them to a car boot, at our local boot sale there is a dealer who pays 1.00-2.00 for any CD, even if you sell them for 1.00 each you would get 400.00+.

I've been clearing out my CD's for a while now (approx 3000) - the bulk go on Amazon, as I'm in no major hurry to shift them. The ones with value go on ebay (before they bring in free postage), the ones I don't think will be worth anything, to the charity shop (we took about seven plastic bags full, much to the shops bemusement).

The only problem with Amazon is that you've got to hope someone wants your CD, and you don't get undercut by someone with a similar one (I usually price mine at the same as the lowest price). You can usually get the correct version on Amazon by typing in the UPC - it's a fairly quick process, anyway.

My friend left the UK for the US, and did a CD load at a Car Boot Sale a while back and made a couple of hundred pounds, so that's also worth doing, but I'd still check for CD's of potential value beforehand, as you might end up with them going for next to nothing!

    >Im wondering what will be the best way to do so??<

I sold a job lot of LPs to the organisers of record/CD fairs, they buy-in then sell-on to the dealers.

    >How much should I expect to get per CD??<

I'd assume an average of 50p, if you're talking about bog-standard rock/pop, That's what I call music type stuff.

I have a local shop who buys used cds, dvds, games consoles , and games . For bulk lots he pays a bit more , but on average i think he pays around 50p to £1.50 per cd, so im told.

Also you could try cash generator / cash exchange / game and other similar places in your area.
I personally would take one day visiting shops and getting a price before you decide to do Ebay / music magpie or Amazon as you will probably get more for ceratin ones.
Hope this helps - As im one of the ones who always buys them from car boots and these shops .;)
